Item #00049 Original WWII Poster: "Victory News - They Depend On Us" - with Union Bug
Description: This extremely difficult to find original WWII poster depicts live action photos with a clear message that the US Army depends on the home front for success. It is a historical document that any history buff needs for the collection. This poster deserves a home with a WWII collector, a library, a history class, a Veteran's organization, a WWII veteran's family, a college or university, or anyone who appreciates how WWII changed the world.
Of special interest, it was printed by Essex County (7) craftspeople in the printing union as evidenced by the Union Bug at the Bottom of the poster. The Allied Printing Trades Council Union Label represents that the printed product was produced by Allied Printing Trades craftspersons under a registered trademark and through a license agreement with a union trades employer. No other label meets the standards of the Allied Label. This is the only label that offers and enforces uniformly prescribed rules and regulations governing its proper use, provides employee compensation consistent with prevailing union wages and benefits of the printing industry in the area, and oversees the maintenance of equality standards on Allied Label products.

Text on Poster:
Top panel --> "U.S. soldiers firing 37mm gun at Buna Mission in ______ that drove Japs from Papua, New Guinea. Note empty shells." (Buna was General Douglas MacArthur's first offensive campaign against Japanese troops in WWII. There is a missing word above because a piece of tape obscures the text on the poster.)
Middle left panel --> "Douglas A-20 bomber, 100 feet off ground, strafes Japanese airfield at Lae, New Guinea. Circles show wrecked planes."
Middle right panel --> "Ambulance moves through smoke toward flames ahead, after Nazi attack on Allied airbase at Souk El Arba, Tunisia."
Bottom panel --> "Wreckage of Nazi Stuka shot down over Allied air base in North Africa by an American P-38."
Message on poster --> "Now, on a larger scale than ever before, our fighting men are meeting the enemy in fierce do or die combat. Now, more than ever before, what we do on the home front is translated in terms of lives lost or saved on the battlefield. Upon our constant, determined, all-out efforts at home - upon the war materials we produce, the bonds we buy, the sacrifices we make - depend the lives of our boys and the freedom of America!"
